"Following the geopolitical events of the twentieth century, the Ukrainian ethnic territories were cut out from the greater country by the borders of its neighboring countries," said Leonov. "Moldova, in particular, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, has received Transnistria as a legacy," he added.
The Ukrainian MP stressed that the Transnistrian territory "was not alien to Ukraine" and that Kiev’s protectorate should be instated over it.
"We are not interested in deepening territorial conflicts, but we have no right to stand by when external players decide the fate of our ethnic territories. Should Romania attach Moldova, we must declare ourselves ready to reintegrate Transnistria as part of Ukraine," said Leonov.
