A study commissioned by the National Prognosis Commission shows that starting the operation of the 3rd and 4th nuclear reactors at the Cernavoda power plant before 2020 is uncertain because of the uncertainties related to Romania's ability to fund investment and shareholding structure.

" The partnership structure as well as the Romanian’s party capacity to financially cover the shares rate are elements of uncertainty that place the starting moment after 2020", the study quoted by Mediafax reports..
The project is assessed at over 4 billion euros and it was initiated in 2007. The works should start in 2010.
The project team of companies was made up of Enel (Italy), ArcelorMittal Romania, Nuclearelectrica, CEZ (the Czech Republic), RWE (Germany), Iberdrola (Spain) and GDF Suez (a Franco-Belgian group).

CEZ, RWE, Iberdrola and GDF Suez have given up the investment at the end of 2010, as they were dissatisfied with the evolution of the talks.. Because of that, the Ministry of Economy through Nuclearelectrica, ended up holding 86% of the project company.

Last week, the state secretary in the Ministry of Economy, Rodin Traicu stated that the Government wants to recall the project companies CEZ, RWE, Iberdrola şi GDF Suez.
