Victor Ponta stated that there would be eight administrative regions and some of the responsibilities residing with the county councils would be transferred to the regions. Moreover, the region’s leaders would be proposed and elected by the local counselors and the mayors.
However, contrary to information previously released, the administrative division would not lead to the disappearance of current districts, but would lead to their incorporation into the eight administrative regions.
Thus, Prime Minister believes, these regions could access European funds and grow, contracting loans directly.
