Victor Ponta had a meeting in Târgu Jiu, with the town mayor and with writer Laurian Stănchescu, the one who started a an action for the repatriation of the earthly remains of Brâncuşi a while ago.
The prime minister stated that the Government would take over the costs involved in the process and mentioned that without a French court order, the repatriation of Brancusi remains would not be possible.
"The proceedings with the French state are very complicated and I am determined to have this private initiative taken over by the Government. The Government will hire a law firm in France, in Paris, because all procedures require the decision of a judge in Paris in order to have Constantin Brancusi exhumed and brought to Târgu Jiu ", Ponta specified.
The premier mentioned that the Government General Secretariat would receive a special provision in this respect from him, the project to repatriate the remains of Brancusi assumed also the refurbishments that the authorities would have to carry out in Hobiţa, at the sculptor parents’ home, as well in the cemetery where he is to be buried.
Novelist Laurian Stănchescu specified after his meeting with Ponta, that he fostered full trust that the sculptor’s earthly remains would be repatriated, especially since the Government decided to get involve in his project.
At the end of the meeting, Laurian Stănchescu offered Ponta a T-shirt with Constantin Brâncuşi’s image print, and the premier promised he would wear it the day they would both go to Paris for the repatriation of the sculptor’s remains.
