Asked about the fact that the former Prime Minister Călin Popescu Tariceanu recently stated that he supported a return to monarchy, Antonescu replied: "I do not think I'm a man who changes his views from one day to another , I'm glad our number is growing".
"I lived times in 1990s when you would expose yourself to danger, physically, if you mentioned the King, if you talked about the monarchy, if you tried even to discuss the fact that this country had a history before the Communists, that this country was violated by the Soviet-installed regime and by everything that followed, and that the settlement of its constitutional leadership must have legitimacy. If I had the courage to support, like other colleagues of mines (...) back in 1990, why shouldn’t I support it now, in 2012. I personally continue to believe that a constitutional monarchy is definitely the most convenient form of government for a country like Romania and I am not arguing that now, we can do that extensively and I think the arguments are already known ... I do not know if it will be possible, but in terms of my belief, there’s no hesitation " Antonescu stated.
