The last episode from the president’s dismissal referendum series has been played today in the Parliament’s joint plenary session, where the Constitutional Court’s ruling has been read today. The president impeached can return to Cotroceni Palace as soon as the decision has been published in the Official Monitor

The Constitutional Court’s ruling no. 6, of August 21st, 2012 regarding compliance with the organizing and deployment of the national referendum held on July 29th, 2012 concerning the dismissal of the President of Romania, Traian Basescu, and the confirmation of the results thereof, has been read in the re-united plenary session of the Parliament by the judge of the Constitutional Court, Mircea Ştefan Minea

After the Decision’s reading , the joint plenary of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, which has been attends by USL MPs, as well, has closed

The President of the Chamber of Deputies, Valeriu Zgonea, announced that the Constitutional Court’s ruling regarding the referendum, of 29th of July, has been sent out to the Official Monitor. Zgonea specified that it is not his duty to send out the decision of the Court concerning the referendum of the 29th of July, but of the Constitutional Court’s president’s, who had already proceeded to sending the document to the Official Monitor. “ It has already been sent out to the Official Monitor, it has reached to the Secretary General of the Government”, Zgonea announced.

He wanted to emphasize that the MPs had had the chance to comment on the Court’s decision. “ We witnessed the after burial ritual, for us as MP’s, it has been a very unusual situation. We have been informed about the Constitution Court’s decision, we haven’t had the opportunity to intervene, I wished we could have intervened, we could have had a debate, but this competency does not lie with us. We do not have the competency to cancel a decision ruled by the Constitutional Court”, Zgonea commented concerning the Monday meeting of the joint plenary session of the two chambers of Parliament.

On the 29th of July, a referendum for president Basescu’s dismissal was organized. According to the Central Electoral Bureau, the elections attendance rate was 46,24% (8.459.053 individuals) and 87,52% (7.403.836 individuals who cast their ballots) voted in favor of the presidents dismissal, while 11,15% (943.375 individuals ) – voted against.
