Romania, high performance in transplantation. The Fundeni program developed unprecedentedly over the last year

Institute Fundeni liver transplant program developed unprecedentedly   over the last year, under the guidance of Professor Irinel Popescu, head of the Institute’s Center for Surgery and Transplant.  

The one who achieved the first liver transplant in Romania points out that the number of transplant  requests is still higher  than the possibilities at hand , even if the  number of donors has grown.

A number of 78 liver transplant operations have been performed at the Fundeni Clinic Institute . It is one of the highest numbers  in Europe at the moment, says Professor Irinel Popescu. The Fundeni  elite team has the best survival rate of operated  patients: about 93%.

The  Fundeni Surgery and Transplant Center  doctors have widened the  range of surgical procedures and they  use almost everything that has been  invented in liver transplant so far . Romania needs, however, approximately 400 such operations per year.

 

The entire medical world acknowledges   the merits of  Professor Irinel Popescu in terms of transplant operations. He was  admitted into the French Medical Academy as a recognition of his  professional performances.
