Victor Ponta, face to face with Angela Merkel. The German Chancellor: Germany wants to be a partner for Romania
Prime Minister Victor Ponta was received in Berlin by the German Chancellor Angela Merkel. This is the first meeting between the two, after the tense situation last summer when Angela Merkel had made strong statements against the political situation in our country.

Prime Minister Victor Ponta arrived Monday evening at the Federal Chancellery in Berlin for the meeting scheduled with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The Romanian Prime Minister was greeted with a military ceremony.

Germany wants to be a partner of Romania including an economic one, but for the German economy it is very important to observe the rule of law standards and to fight against corruption, the German Chancellor Angela Merkel stated, ahead of talks with Prime Minister Victor Ponta.

In his turn, Prime Minister Victor Ponta said that after years of crisis, Romania wants to regain its stability and resume its status as Germany’s strategic partner, ensuring that the members of the governing coalition in Bucharest are determined to strengthen the rule of law and to fight against corruption.

Prime Minister Ponta announced that the visit he was making in Germany aimed to restore the bilateral relations at the level previously held, since they have undergone a "freezing period" following last year's political crisis.

Victor Ponta met with Germany's biggest investors interested in investing in our country.

Prime Minister Ponta has offered Mrs Merkel a gift: a basket of Romanian traditional products.
