Victor Ponta announced that the best option for prime minister if he won the presidential election, would be Călin Popescu Tariceanu. The prime minister said that Tariceanu would ensure that the principles on which the USL ‘s establishment was built, would be continued in 2015 and 2016.
"I’ve proposed and I consider that the best solution for prime minister is the president of the Liberal Party, Mr. Tariceanu, who is the founder, along with his colleagues of the Social Liberal Union (USL), which ensures the fact that the principles which the USL was based on, the Basescu regime change, social balance, economic development will be continued in 2015 and 2016" Ponta said.
PM Ponta said that, if elected on Nov. 16 as president of Romania, he would act as prime minister until December 22, when the current mandate of the head of state ends.
Victor Ponta said that he did not rule out the possibility of having a technocrat prime minister, such as Florin Georgescu. The Prime Minister added that he was still considering the variant that George Maior might take office as prime minister recalling that the "primary choice" would be Călin Popescu Tariceanu.
"Equally, I have discussed with my colleagues, if in the upcoming days or weeks we believe that we must send out a clear signal to preserve fiscal discipline, then we do not exclude the possibility of having a technocrat prime minister in the person of first Deputy Governor, Mr. Florin Georgescu ", Ponta said.
Ponta spoke also about the third variant of premier in the person of George Maior. "If for Romania strategic security threats arise and to give clear guarantees on further democratic development of our international obligations, we can also consider and I think he would be a competent person in this respect - Mr. George Maior, insofar as him, as he publicly announced, will submit his resignation as director of SRI after the elections, " the Premier said.
He noted, however, that the main political option to be reviewed by members of the coalition, targeted Tăriceanu. "Up to November 16, we will not discuss anything about who, what ministry, who will be. All members of the coalition, except for the minority group that did not request this, will have representation in the government."
