"I have already talked with the president. We’ve had an informal discussion. I’ll inform him about those discussed today in the foreign policy committees, we coordinate our positions all the time because this is about three institutional actors - the President, the Government and the Parliament. Ideally, the positions of the three institutions should be coordinated, even though I am rather in favor of a rapid process of recognition, the President is more cautious than I am, while the former foreign ministers also have their views, " Ponta said according to Mediafax.
The Head of Government showed that it was important for Romania to have a coordinated position, first within its institutions, and also to coordinate its position with those of its European and transatlantic partners.
Also, Ponta said that during the talks with the foreign policy committee members they have decided to establish a working group on the topic made up of representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the two Committees so as to be informed every time about any new developments.
President Traian Băsescu received at the Presidential Palace the visit of Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacia. The president conveyed him his “congratulations” for having found the resources to conclude an agreement with Pristina, mentioning that he understood very well ‘how hard it must have been’, even if an approach in tune with the new political reality was necessary.
The Serbian Prime Minister said Friday, at the end of the meeting with his Romanian counterpart, Victor Ponta, at the Victoria Palace, that he understood very well the "pressures" being made on Romania on account of his principles based opposition in the Kosovo issues and stressed the fact that the Government in Belgrade also wanted for the issues to be settled and some acceptable solutions be found.
A month ago, the European Parliament adopted a resolution urging the EU member states that have not recognized Kosovo to do so as soon as possible.
Following this decision, Prime Minister Victor Ponta stated back then that Romania had to go along with the European family on the Kosovo issue.
The Governments in Belgrade and Pristina have approved the implementation plan of the agreement on normalizing their relations, with the overview of the European Union (EU) in April, in Brussels, official sources announced on Monday, according to AFP.
In 2008, Kosovo declared its independence from Serbia, but Belgrade refuses to recognize it.
