PM Victor Ponta is interim minister of Justice

PM Victor Ponta announced on Monday evening's edition of „Synthesis of the day“ talkshow, on Antena 3, that Mona Pivniceru would give up her position with the Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM) and would become the new minister of Justice. But the SCM unanimously rejected, in Monday's meeting, the proposition to detach Mona Pivniceru as minister.

According to magistracy sources, in order to become a minister, Pivniceru should resign from her position as a member of the Council, then she has to return to the High Court of Cassation and Justice and then to request detachment to the Ministry of Justice.

Mona Pivniceru communicated her intention to resign from her position as member of SCM and the procedures will be completed in a few days, thus PM Ponta becoming interim minister of Justice.

Interim president of Romania Crin Antonescu signed, on Tuesday, the decree for assigning PM Victor Ponta as interim minister of Justice.
