The most important statements made by interim president Crin Antonescu

- I can describe as follows the referendum situation: without any shadow of a doubt there is an overwhelming majority that says Traian Basescu should leave. There is a Parliament, a Government, perfectly legit, an interim president, and on the other side we have mister Basescu and all his means used to alter the will expressed by this referendum

- I said that we must respect the rights of the state of law, in other words I said that we expected the Constitutional Court decision and that we would respect it no matter what that decision would be

- I could say that the past days have offered us all, unfortunately, the image of a more and more obtrusive and much less held-back Traian Basescu as he gave orders to the institution of the General Prosecutor of Romania, as he threatened people, institutions of the Romanian Government, of the Romanian administration, prescribing the CCR what it should do, including disseminating misconstructions of some of the CCR decisions

- Institutions must not allow themselves to be intimidated and I especially target the Romanian Government, which left the impression of a certain timidity and of some hesitations. The first to act is the Government and it has two things to do: firstly, to do exactly what the CCR requested in its August 2nd decision. Secondly, the Government must take all measures in order for its own institutions not to fall to intimidation and for all the citizens of this country to be protected from the threats and intimidations Traian Basescu, practically situated outside the law, resorts to.

- It is clear that Traian Basescu has accomplices. When he sees that by threatening a questor with jailtime and that questor is called the next day at the General Prosecutor's office for hearings and later prosecuted, when he disseminates misconstructions of the CCR decisions and says how CCR should judge and the next day a judge, in the name of the Court, issues a document dictated by Traian Basescu, when he sees all these things happening of course he is splurging in a state of complicity and of intimidating others. Obviously, there is a continuos specially manifested support that Traian Basescu is being shown by institutions and people outside Romania and this is not right at all

- The ex-minister of Interior lied. When he resignated yesterday he did so because he was not dismissed, but that is none of my business. The moment he spoke  publicly about pressures made by me on him or on the Ministry or on anybody else, placing me on the same level as Traian Basescu, who had threatened him with imprisonement specifying the duration of the incarceration in public, I knew that the minister of Interior was lying, that he has something to hide, this is why it is a very good thing he left
